The Woodlands area community is made up of five residential villages connected by a
system of greenbelts more than 80 miles long. When The Woodlands was first built, over one-third of the land was preserved for parks and greenbelts. Each residential village is
made up of thoughtfully-designed neighborhoods with a variety of styles and price ranges.
The community is home to more than
700 businesses and employs more than 16,500 people. It is a thriving and diverse community of people and companies. Shell Oil Company, Hughes Christensen, Tennaco Business Services,
Chevron Pipe Line Company and Betz Process Chemicals have all made major corporate commitments to
the community area.
A 5,000-acre commercial and industrial complex forms a
crescent alongside and across Interstate 45. This complex is divided into three zones:
Town Center, Research Forest and the Trade Center. Most of The Woodlands' commercial
development is taking place in Town Center, an 800-acre "downtown in the forest. Town
Center is becoming thecommercial, cultural and entertainment focal point of the North
Houston/MontgomeryCounty region.
Town Center is where you will find The Woodlands Mall,
the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion and The Woodlands medical community. The Houston Advanced Research Center, an applied research consortium of 11 universities and
institutions, is located in Research Forest.
The community has swimming pools, playgrounds, fields, picnic pavilions,
tennis courts, fishing holes, and more than 60 neighborhood parks. Over 80 miles of wooded
hiking and bike trails connect the intertwining residential neighborhoods. Golfers who are
members of The Country Club can play its West Course or Palmer Course.
All 11 public schools in the area have
been rated exemplary or have been recognized by the Texas Education Agency.
