Moving packing move relocation transfer relocate. Packing to move moving relocation the process of relocating goods from one residence transfer to another.

Packing Tip: From the start think of moving everything in one move at one time! Piecemeal moving across town will turn three trips into thirty trips or more. From your previous residence transport all of your furniture and belongings, on one truck move everything one time.

Packing Tip: Boxes Tape Markers you can get used boxes from any moving company because they save them, and resell them. Plastic tape three/six rolls and several sharpie markers, box cutter and tie down strap / rope.
Boxes - Size the best are what is called book boxes, good for everything - books, dishes, pictures, miscellaneous, mark all boxes as to the room they came out of and the room they are going to .

Book boxes - The book box is the most important size it has many uses and its size does not allow you to make it heaver than you can pick up. They also load and travel well on the truck.
Book boxes can also be used to protect pictures in broken down / flat state as packing or reshaped, reformed around pictures (tape sides).
You can reshape boxes to the shape of an object, 2-3 per picture size.  How many for kitchen - one per drawer, elsewhere one per shelf of 2 feet or less, 2 under sink - closest 1 box per foot depending on what is going in it. Putting shoe boxes in a book box will require more book boxes.
Sounds like a lot of boxes? start with 50 for one bedroom apartment, houses will use 100s.

Packing Tip: You should put one small lamp in one box and the lamp shade in another, fill any empty space with paper wrapped/packed items in the box, mark box contents on outside of box.

Packing Tip: Never ever use tiny boxes put these into a book box for transport on the moving truck.

Packing Tip: Dishes Plates Glasses should have a paper barrier between them the clinging together is what results in breakage.

Packing Tip:  Metal filing cabinets may be to heavy for you to move if not unloaded.

Packing Note: The heaviest items you own are books and magazines - paper.

Packing Note:  The clothing dresser put your clothes in it, do not remove the drawers, wrap with a blanket - tape blanket to prevent scratches, move as a heavy item.

Packing Note: The most unyielding item is your mattress, the hardest to hold on to, the hardest to keep clean, should be contained in something or wrapped in plastic for cleaniest purpose.

Packing Note: The most unfavorable moving item are your plants.

Packing Note: The most difficult to pack items are toys only preceded by outdoor toys.

Packing Note: The heaviest looking but light item is washer and dryer although the danger is the sharp metal edges when handing it, cover with blanket or boxes - tape to prevent scratches.

Packing Note: The hardest to get out the door is the refrigerator, cover with blanket and tape blanket - to prevent scratches.

Packing Note: The hardest item to get a hold of is large TV, super big TVs are even more difficult two, three, four man job ....  pianos are easier.

Packing Note: Generally the legs on tables will be removed for saving space on to the truck.

Packing The Truck: Truck packing is done for the consideration of safety to the contents and available load space usage (not last on first off). The key is making wall layers to protect load shifting.
Load the truck with the largest furniture first (strap it forward) also filing cabinets, cover and tape.
Next is the mattress (a buffer). Next big TV or smaller furniture, cover and tape. You may put lighter book boxes on top of what you have loaded - fill to the roof, no empty spaces, book cabinets remove shelving, put very light items on them in them, cover and tape.
Load tables without legs on their side building another wall put tightest packed heaviest book boxes on truck floor lighter boxes on top. Refrigerator, washing machine, dryer are on the insides of the truck cover and tape strapped to the wall. Sofas are stood on edge strapped to the wall. Stuffed chairs may be stacked, remember to pack to the top of the truck with light boxes. Toys may go on top as they are light. Last is plants.

Optimally on the move day the only thing in your car is a cooler with the frozen goods from you refrigerator.

Unpacking Tip: Arrival as you unload if there is visible physical damage any box put to the side for later inspection, now is not the time.  Toys and plants were the last on and the first off, put these aside out of your unload path of travel onto the patio.   Place the large furniture, TV, bed set, and tables first, boxes second.
The boxes according to their marking are where they will go, put them in that room on a side wall, never leave anything in the hall way. This is not the time to try and put everything away, empty boxes create a second unnecessary hardship to your unloading.

Packing Tip: Moving overseas hire professional packers to do it for you.

Moving Tip: Insurance Get some. Your apartment community's or landlord's insurance policy does not cover your personal belongings when they are damaged or stolen. You can be liable for damage done to the apartment or house as a result of a fire due to your negligence. If someone is hurt while on the property you rent, you may be legally responsible for that person's medical expenses. Renters Insurance can even cover you for personal possessions that don't happen to be in the apartment or house at the time of the loss.

Some estimates have stated that 20 percent of all consumers have some kind of issue during a move resulting in damage to their possessions. While large-scale moving companies are federally required by law to offer at least some insurance, it is done by the pound and anyone with an iPod knows that your possessions are often worth more than their weight indicates.

Most homeowner insurance policies do not cover your household goods while in transit. Be sure to check with your insurance company to know what coverage you have and assess if additional insurance is necessary.

Moving Tip:
Do It Yourself
When renting a truck, check the overall quality and condition of the rental company's vehicles. Find out where to pick up and drop off the rental truck, and try to make the drop-off point as close as possible to your actual destination. (Be sure to ask in advance if there is a drop-off fee, which can often be substantial.)

Don't get a truck that is too small for your needs two trips are worse than one. Trucks are 12 foot 18 foot and 24 feet. The 24 is for 3 bedroom apartments or houses. The larger the truck costs more and the more your household goods need to be secured as you drive. Tie every thing down put flat boxes next to exposed furniture, secure load with straps or at the very least rope.

Moving Tip: On a hot summer day your move may take longer than you anticipated make a tentative plan to have the truck for two days.

According to the Self Storage Association, as of the first quarter of 2007 there are 51,223 "primary" self storage facilities in the United States. In addition to the 51,223 "primary" self storage facilities, there are another 8,434 small business "secondary" mini storage facilities in the US.

Moving Tip: At Minimum you called a moving company, the truck shows up! Who exactly is this person? Ask to see his/her drivers license and insurance card (this is only prudent) on your part.

Motor carriers of property operating commercial motor vehicles in interstate commerce must have at least the minimum amount of insurance required by the Motor Carrier Act of 1980. The MCS-90 endorsement provides proof of compliance with this law. The financial responsibility law in each state requires proof of financial responsibility if in an accident.  Failure to provide proof may result in loss of license and or vehicle registration. Each state requires a minimum limit and property damage per accident.
